The Hōʻili Hoʻoilina Training Program was launched in 2021 in partnership with the Molokaʻi Library Services Cadre. The purpose of the program is to engage Molokaʻi community members in records management processes to further develop and encourage a shared sense of community authority, ownership, and responsibility of our island’s cultural resources. The primary goal of the training program is to increase local professional capacity and literacy in records and collection management on Molokaʻi.
Since 2021, the Hōʻili Hoʻoilina Training Program has mentored 5 local Native Hawaiian students in: digitizing archival materials, developing digital repository policies and workflows, handling of archival materials, cleaning photo slides and film strips, creating metadata, and accessioning collections. The students worked with various library institutions and individuals on Molokaʻi to digitize their unique records and collections. The interns have digitized over 10,000 records (and growing by the day). These records include: photographs, yearbooks, oral histories, newsletters, manuscripts, maps, and scrapbooks. The records will be made available and accessible to the Molokaʻi Community soon via the Moaʻe Molokaʻi Digital Repository project.
